Rescue of animals from investigation centers: Twenty-four dogs from the School of Medicine (UBA) in 1984. Due to ADDA’s well documented evidence, these animals were given to the entity by the dean of that Faculty -Res.583/84. It closed the investigation area with animals of the Churruca Visca hospital in 1989. Thirteen dogs from the Hospital de Clínicas José de San Martín in 1990 (judicial intervention). It deactivated the kennel trunk/gas chamber used for collecting and sacrificing stray dogs and cats in Buenos Aires city in 1979. Its actions as inspector entity in the Pasteur Institute of Buenos Aires achieved a drop of 75% in the sacrifice of abandoned dogs and cats. At that time, this entity began an adoption service for abandoned animals within the Pasteur Institute, achieving 340 adoptions instead of the five or six made during the last years. ADDA’s terrible struggle inside the Pasteur Institute in order to avoid that abandoned animals there were delivered to labs and hospitals for research hastened the exit of the entity. ADDA started massive campaigns for the sterilization of dogs and cats inside the Pasteur Institute of Buenos Aires. These programs were kept from 1980 until 1983. After that year the entity continued carrying them out outside the Pasteur Institute receiving the collaboration of private clinics and vets that offered sterilization at minimum fees honoring the work with no profit purposes of this entity. Results were excellent. During the 1992-1993 summer, ADDA transferred 470 sterilizations to vets who were cooperating and the following year people were already becoming interested on the sterilization of their animals. There were 1634 sterilizations during similar season and period. ADDA has been a pioneer in promoting the early sterilization of dogs and cats. Little by little, the entity has considered younger ages and has made people getting out of that spreaded and mistaken idea that held that a female cat or dog must have at least a litter before being sterilized. Massive broadcasting campaigns on radio and television kept by ADDA during 25 consecutive years changed on people those old concepts and now many vets sterilize animals from 4 or 5 months old. |
